40K for the New Professional

Another Monday is here, so it's time for me to share something positive- something that does not make me want to fling my feces at onlookers- with you.

About a month or so ago a new blog, of which I am a big fan, surfaced. It's called "40k for the New Professional" and it's run by Kennedy.

I have to give him big props for taking the "editorial" style of article, which is normally code for 'I don't know what I'm talking about, so I'll just post some lame bullshit,' and taking it to the next level. This is some truly paradigm shifting, outside the box thinking we have on our hands here folks. If you're looking to maximize throughput and set yourself up for success with your 40k game, this is the blog for you. Kennedy nimbly applies professional development (or business self help?) ideas to all aspects of the hobby, with just a hint of tongue-in-cheekism thrown in for good measure. He tackles such diverse topics as applying effective scheduling principles to you hobby life and strategies to help avoid getting burned out. In case all of this wasn't enough, he ices all of this with a frosting of business presentation style. Each article is capped by a picture that has come straight out of the power point clip art cannon. Compound that with the fact that his articles read like the presenter's guide for a corporate weekend retreat and you've got a good time coming your way.

Every time I go to his blog this is pretty much what happens:
In spite of a thin veneer of seriousness, there is always a particle board center of sarcasm and humor hidden within the articles*.

But you don't have to take my word on all this. Go read his article on scheduling efficiency and you'll see what I mean. It's solid advice and kind of funny to boot. While you're there poke around his other articles and you will find many other gems to digest. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll increase your 3rd quarter profits 10% YOY.

and now an open letter to Kennedy:

Kennedy:

I enjoy your bog very much and look forward to future articles. If I may be so bold, here are some ideas that you may wish to utilize in your future endeavors. These are being given to you free of any obligation and without need of credit/royalties-

  • apply principles of networking to getting ahead in the gaming community or expanding your gaming group
  • find a way to present your articles in the form of a slide presentation
  • use managerial accounting principles to help budget purchasing an army or assist with list creation
  • utilize principles of marketing, such as branding, in promoting a gaming club, blog, etc
Thank you for your time and consideration. Best of luck with your blog.

Best,
Dethtron

I would like to see an article about applying Six Sigma Methodology to List Building

Or, how to collect Voice of Client (VoC) from retards.

clt, that's priceless. I guess we could also add army book reviews done as a SWOT analysis to that list.

Thanks for all the love, guys (in a totally heterosexual and manly way, of course).

I appreciate the plug, Dethtron. I'm definitely going to use (i.e. shamelessly steal) the ideas that you put up for me... Although I'm not sure how to turn my blog into a living slide show, lol.

I'm glad that you appreciate the sly humor I try to slide in, time and time again.

Anyways, I find it's good to stretch my editorial writing skills again (I used to be a newspaper reporter before being a law student... go figure). I hope to keep up the quality.
